ALTAMAHAW, N.C. Jason York had ran at Ace Speedway in the Late Model Division several years ago. Even with Ace being the closest track to his Reidsville home, Jason choose to run the racing circuits that take you to a different track each week. This meant a lot of traveling, but also the chance to gain a lot of experience. This year Jason decided to come back home.
Jason started the night with fastest qualifier with a 15.711 time. Even after several passes from his hometown competitor and defending champion, Rodney Cook, Jason held on to take the top spot. Dean Fogleman took the 3rd place finish with Robert Turner 4th and Scotty Warren finishing fifth. Outside of the top 5 were Dustin Rumley, Dane Rudolph, Jason Payne, Ronnie Clifton and Josh Lowder.
In the Modified Division Phil Bryant showed that he hasn’t lost his touch here he came out of retirement to take the season opener . Defending champion Brad Allen gave him all he could handle and finishing in second. Gary Young, Jr finished third with a new addition, John Nichols in fourth. Also new this year was Richard Thomas who finished fifth. The remaining finishers were Roy Cook, Randy Butler, Ronnie Austin, Thomas Scott, Don Cook, Richard Bailey, and Barry Moize.
The Limited Sportsman Division has already show growth from last year with several of our last year regulars not with us yet. Bobby Griffin took the win with Josh Lowder and Ziggy Zimmerman rounding out the top three positions. They were followed by John Moore, Daryl Carver, Kevan Combs, Bob Goff, Michael Hatley, and Robert Zook.
Michael Tucker took the 1st prize in the Mini Stock Divisoin fending of defending Champion A. J. Sanders. Chad Sykes finished third with Wayne Hill and Archie Sanders taking the other top five positions. They were followed by Mike Herron, Jamie Orange, Mark Wilburn, Michael Bowlin, Kevin Neal, Brian Boland, Jason Cook, Bain Heffner, and Chuck Walls.
Our biggest class of the night was our Xtreme. This class is growing by leaps and bounds. Keith Brame, Jr. continued his winning ways from last year with David Fortner and Keith Spake taking the second and third places Everyone’s favorites the Ground Pounders also joined us Friday night with Gary Lloyd taking the win in the Sportsman division and Daryl Gwynn taking the win in the Modified Division.
